Happy day

Today has been one of those days where I am going to be sore from laughing all day at work. Office banter really is the best. And, to top it off, I got a TON of work done to boot. 

List of the funny shit going on:
- Harlem Shake (youtube it, we all just about peed ourselves)
- the receptionist. She's seriously about to crack.
- making fun of unfortunate names we have come across over the years. I mean honestly, who dames their kid "Dick Gay?"
- saying "that's what she said." Does that *ever* get old?

Okay, so it doesn't seem like that much stuff, but the Harlem Shake took up three quarters of the day alone.

Mushy love stuff

So, I was sleeping the other morning, at my girlfriend’s house. It was a weekday, and I could hear her, quietly, in the dining room, going over homework with her son before school. I was just faintly aware of this, as I hadn't been feeling well and was in one of those sickness-induced sleep-hazes. Anyway, a few minutes (or so, I doubt I had any sort of time accuracy at this point) went by and I could hear her come into her bedroom, apparently to get a sweatshirt out of the closet, and shortly thereafter, she left. Without turning on the light. So I could sleep. Later I realized that she had found a flashlight so as to be able to see, so that she wouldn't disturb my sleeping.

This is what I've been waiting for. Honestly, I don’t think I've ever felt so loved and cherished as I did in that moment. I think cherished is the key. I mean, I've felt loved by people, but never have I felt like I was more important to my partner than they were to themselves, which I now realize is horrible, except for the fact that I don’t have to worry about that any longer.

Update

I took a trip to Santa Barbara a few weeks ago with a good friend for some medical stuff. It was a fun trip (I mean as fun as it can be at a clinic during the day). The weather was amazing and she and I had a blast in the evenings, eating at great little spots and having cocktails. It was the first time I have even been to Santa Barbara and not at least seen the ocean, but neither she nor I were in the mood for a trip down to the water.

This week has been busy with PTA stuff, as well as other stuff for Georgia. Her school has Dinner Nights every month or two at a local restaurant, with proceeds for sales going back to the school, and last night it was at Chuck E. Cheese. It was fun for her, and I got to talk with a lot of the other parents from her school. It was nice to have time to chat with people that have their priorities in order, and I’m excited for the next dinner (and glad it isn’t going to be at CEC).

Vacation...sort of

So, I'm in Santa Barbara for a few days. A good friend is having some medical things done at a clinic down here and I didn't want her to go alone. The weather is beautiful, and we have enough time between her various appointments to relax and wonder around. It is probably about 70 degrees outside, and very sunny. Anyway, it's a nice break from the winter (not to mention from work).

Volunteering

So, I volunteered to be the chairperson of my kindergartener’s school’s Parent Volunteer Committee (it’s like the PTA). At the beginning of the school year I signed up to be a room parent (luckily there are two room parents in her class, and the other one actually has experience with that sort of thing) and the teacher assured me that I would be a good fit for the job, even though I work a full-time job and can’t be in the classroom all the time (or at all, really). It has worked out well so far, as the types of things I have had to do so far have been more administrative (emailing, calling, begging for donations/volunteer time, etc.) and not as much hands-on, in the classroom type stuff. I actually enjoy it, and for the past few months have enjoyed getting to know these other parents of kids.

Anyhoo, as a room parent (I’m not sure why they don’t just use the term “room mom,” as al of the room parents are mothers) I am required to go to these monthly PVC meetings, and there I volunteered to be the chairperson. I also have a co-chair (or she has me) and a secretary. At one of the meetings we discussed the school carnival, due up in the spring, and me, seeing that no one else was volunteering to chair that committee, volunteered like an idiot. My point with all of this babble is that I think I might just regret that decision. We have a meeting tonight to go over a lot of what needs to be done for the carnival, and in gathering my notes from other meetings we have had so far about it I have come to realize that this is a big deal.

In other news: I’m tired.
